With only 93 inhabitants in an area of \u200b\u200b48.48 square kilometers, Santa Magdalena Jicotlan in the Mixteca region state, is considered the least populated municipality of 2 000 2241 available to the country and of the 570 existing in the state.
According the preliminary report from the National Census of Population and Housing 2010 by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) in the same year, Jicotlan live 40 men and 53 women in 34 homes.
This maintains an average of 3.5 inhabitants per square kilometer, according to the territorial extension compared to the state represents a 0.05 per cent.
According to the results presented in the Second Census of Population and Housing in 2005, the municipality had a total of 102 inhabitants, with a mortality rate of 0.04 percent, so it follows that the population of this municipality is in decline.
Jicotlan, located in the district of Coixtlahuaca, is located in the northeastern part of the state and its distance from the Oaxacan capital is 174 miles.
By 2005, according to the Census of that year conducted by the INEGI also showed that the population 5 years and over who were Catholic totaled 95 people, while non-Catholics in the same age range were not determined.
Referring to the education category, INEGI in 2000 found that 65 percent of jicotlanenses lacked post-primary education and only 27 percent have completed basic education, the rest of the population was illiterate.
However, they also state that in this place there is very little migration, since until 2000, of the 103 persons born in Jicotlan, 95 maintained their residence in this community.
